Recently, with the approval of the construction of three Pumped-storage hydroelectricity in Centian, Guangdong, Puxian, Shanxi and Lianyungang, Jiangsu. Therefore, during the 14th Five Year Plan period, the approved scale of Pumped-storage hydroelectricity in China accumulatively exceeded 100 million kilowatts.
Recently, the "Pumped Storage Industry Development Report 2022" jointly released by the General Institute of Hydropower and Water Resources Planning and Design and the Pumped Storage Industry Branch of the Chinese Hydroelectric Engineering Society shows that as of the end of 2022, China has built a pumped storage installed capacity of 45.79 million kilowatts. So far, the total resources of pumped storage stations that have been included in the plan are about 823 million kilowatts, of which 167 million kilowatts have been built or approved for construction, with great potential for future development.

After experiencing a stage of large-scale development, China's renewable energy is moving towards a new stage of high-quality leapfrog development. As of the end of 2022, the installed capacity of renewable energy in China has exceeded 1.2 billion kilowatts, accounting for 47.3% of the total installed capacity of power generation in the country. Among them, hydropower, wind power, solar power, and biomass power have consistently ranked first in the world's installed capacity for 18, 13, 8, and 5 years respectively.

The rapid growth of new energy installations requires reliable regulated power sources as support. After the issuance and implementation of the "Medium and Long Term Development Plan for Pumped Storage Energy (2021-2035)" in 2021, the pumped storage industry entered a new stage of high-quality development. 2022 is a crucial year for promoting the implementation of the 14th Five Year Plan for the Development of Renewable Energy and the mid to long-term development of pumped storage. The development of the pumped storage industry has achieved significant results.
Data shows that in 2022, 8.8 million kilowatts of pumped storage energy were newly put into operation nationwide, providing important support for the safe and stable operation of the power system; 48 approved projects with a total scale of 68.9 million kilowatts, exceeding the total approved scale during the 13th Five Year Plan period, with a total investment of over 450 billion yuan, strongly supporting the country's efforts to stabilize the economy, maintain growth, and promote development.

It is estimated that by 2025, the scale of Pumped-storage hydroelectricity put into operation in China will be about 62 million kilowatts; By 2030, this scale will be approximately 160 to 180 million kilowatts. Editor/Xie Li
