Mota Engil, a construction expert, won a contract worth US $920 million to provide and finance Locomotive and vehicles in Nigeria.

It is said that the contract is an important component of a large $2 billion railway project aimed at connecting Nigeria and Niger. The 284km Railway track will run between Kano, the capital of Kano State State in the north, and Marradi, Niger's second largest city. Marradi is the developing oil industry center of the country. It will also extend eastward from Kano to Dace, the capital of Jigawa State State. It is said that winning the contract will strengthen Mota Engil's business in Africa and contribute to its orders in the region.

Mota Engil stated in a statement that the contract emphasizes the Nigerian government's commitment to strengthening regional connectivity and promoting economic development in the northern part of the country. It also emphasizes the Mota Engil Group's ability to support these development efforts in Africa.

In addition to this railway project, Mota Engil and Two Chinas Chinese enterprises have previously been included in the candidate list of the $2.5 billion bridge project by the Nigerian Lagos State state government.

It is said that the railway construction plan is part of the government's broader plan to establish a wide railway network in Nigeria. This is a response to the long-term problem of insufficient transportation infrastructure that hinders economic growth.Editor/XingWentao
