The Arabica coffee tree, which originated in Africa, was brought to Yunnan by French missionaries more than 100 years ago, opening the history of coffee planting in Chinese Mainland. In the 1980s, Yunnan began the industrial cultivation of coffee, benefiting from its favorable ecological and geographical climate advantages. The quality of Yunnan Arabica small grain coffee has been recognized by the market and has long been a choice for purchasing raw materials for international brands such as Nestle and Starbucks.
Nowadays, over 95% of coffee produced in China comes from Yunnan, with over 60% of Yunnan coffee produced from Pu'er. In 2022, the planting area of Pu'er coffee will reach 679000 mu, and the comprehensive output value will exceed 5 billion yuan. Pu'er, a tea town famous for the Tea Horse Road, has risen to become the coffee capital.
It is understood that there is a great demand for coffee abroad. For example, in Egypt, coffee and black tea are among the favorite drinks of the local people, and coffee and caf é culture are important elements of Arab culture.
