For more than six years since the safe operation of Mombasa Nairobi Railway in Kenya, there have been such a group of "Chinese masters" who hand in hand teach various technologies of Locomotive, promote the maintenance concept of modern Locomotive, and train more than 200 local technicians to gradually become the backbone of the maintenance of Mombasa Nairobi Locomotive.
The Mombasa-Nairobi Railway is the first railway constructed in Kenya since its independence. It is a modern railway constructed using Chinese standards, technology, and equipment. All locomotives and vehicles running on Mombasa Nairobi Railway are from CRRC.
On May 31, 2017, the Mombasa-Nairobi Railway was officially opened, and the primary task before CRRC employees was to help Kenyan employees establish the concept of "preventive maintenance"‘ Preventive maintenance 'is to prevent accidents before they occur and not leave safety hazards for the operation of locomotives and vehicles. Chen Jun, an employee of CRRC in Kenya, said. In order to make Kenyan employees aware of the necessity of 'preventive maintenance', Chen Jun and his colleagues have put in a lot of effort.
Taking the replacement of the diesel engine oil coarse filter element as an example, the Chinese locomotive maintenance team organized a special training activity. After leaving the classroom, Chen Jun brought the Kenyan students to the homework site and took out a filter element that had been used for a while to "dissect" for everyone to see. Seeing the sediment inside the filter element, everyone realizes that it is necessary to maintain small components well in order to ensure the operation of the locomotive.
Since launching locomotive maintenance service, CRRC has actively pursued localized management mode. After a Kenyan employee arrives at his post, he needs to receive Reception theory knowledge and operation safety training, and can start on-site training only after passing the exam. At all stages, Kenyan employees have hands-on training guidance for "Chinese masters".
Li Jian, a resident employee of CRRC in Kenya, came to Kenya in 2018, mainly responsible for the maintenance and daily servicing inspection of the locomotive Railway air brake system, and training local employees through mentoring. There are more than 30 reconnection valves in the Railway air brake Plumbing of a locomotive. To help Kenyan employees understand the role of these valves one by one, Li Jian takes every opportunity to explain, often leads Kenyan employees to judge locomotive faults on site, and patiently teaches solutions to common problems.
Kenya is bordered by the Indian Ocean in the east, and the Mombasa Port is connected to one end of the Mombasa Railway. The high air humidity is very unfavorable for locomotive dryers. Considering factors such as climate, the maintenance team has statistically analyzed the frequency of dryer maintenance that matches the environment. Day after day, the team summarized these experiences into a maintenance and repair manual, covering various systems, key components, and operating procedures and standards of locomotives and vehicles, providing important technical support for the localized operation of the Mombasa-Nairobi Railway.
Since its opening, the Mombasa-Nairobi Railway has maintained a good development momentum and a record of safe operation. The operator of the Mombasa-Nairobi Railway predicts that by the end of 2023, it will have completed a total of 23 million tons of freight and 13 million passenger trips.Editor/Ma Xue
