Mwanza Province in Tanzania is located on the south bank of Lake Victoria, the second largest freshwater lake in the world. However, it was very difficult for residents along the lake to get water because of lack of facilities in the past. Today, with the joint efforts of Chinese and local engineers, Mwanza's water facilities are gradually improved, bringing great convenience to the lives of local residents.
For a long time, it has been difficult to ensure water use, and frequent health problems have been a problem for Mwanza residents. In order to obtain domestic water, people have to take water from old facilities with plastic buckets on their heads, while residents who are slightly away from the lake have to travel a long way.
The Mwanza Satellite City Water Supply Project in Tanzania is an important livelihood project under the the Belt and Road Initiative of China and Africa, which not only alleviates the water consumption problem of residents within the project scope, but also provides training and employment opportunities for local people. Kelvin, who grew up on the side of Lake Victoria, experienced the old time of watching the lake. After completing his studies in Dar es Salaam, he joined CCECC East Africa Co., Ltd. and became a quality inspection engineer.
In May 2017, after the launch of the satellite city water supply project, Kelvin returned to his hometown to work with Chinese colleagues to solve the water supply problem in his hometown. As a builder and beneficiary, he participated in the water supply project with practical actions, bringing a pool of clean water to his hometown.
In Misongwe, Mwanza Province, Kelvin and his colleagues dug ditches and buried pipes to introduce clean water into residents' homes. Previously, we had to set off at 6am to go to the well to fetch water for at least 7 hours back and forth. If there were many people queuing, we would have to wait even longer. "Local residents said," The smooth water supply has provided great convenience for our lives.Editor/Ma Xue
