Dejan Gezu is one of the first drivers in Ethiopia to obtain an electrified Train driver license. He bears the dual responsibility of safely driving the Ethiopian Djibouti standard gauge railway built in China and training ambitious young people. Gezu described himself as a model of China's successful transfer of knowledge and experience to help Ethiopia achieve development and modernization.
I was just a trainee train driver at the time, trained by Chinese people. Now, I am providing training for other trainees. We can now learn by our own experts, "said Ge Zu. He praised China's support for Ethiopia, from building the most advanced railway infrastructure to providing local people with railway operation knowledge and skills.
Two years ago, after graduating from the training program organized by China, Dezhen Gezu became one of the first local drivers in Ethiopia to obtain the driving qualification of Electric locomotive. Nowadays, with the skills learned through training, Dezhen Gezu has started teaching to cultivate local young drivers.
Gezu is now passing on the knowledge he learned in China to Ethiopian young people. He spoke highly of China's participation in Ethiopia, and is enthusiastic and admiring of China's capacity building initiatives in Ethiopia. Knowledge sharing is very important for local people. Chinese professionals share their experience and knowledge with our locals; We can obtain the best experience and knowledge from them because it is helpful for our future, he said.
The standard gauge railway from Ethiopia to Djibouti is 752km long, also known as the Addis Ababa Djibouti Railway. It is the first cross-border Railway electrification in Africa and the flagship project under the framework of China's the Belt and Road Initiative.Editor/Ma Xue
