Pumped storage is an important way for countries around the world to ensure the safe and stable operation of their power systems. From July 18 to 21, 2023, the feasibility study report of Fujian Xianyou Mulan Pumped-storage hydroelectricity successfully passed the review in Xianyou, laying a solid foundation for the follow-up construction of the project.

Mulan Pumped-storage hydroelectricity is a key implementation project of the 14th Five Year Plan of the Medium and Long Term Development Plan of Pumped Storage (2021-2035). The installed capacity of the power station is 1400MW, belonging to the first class large (1) type project, with a total investment of approximately 8.557 billion yuan. After the completion of the power station, it plays an important role in alleviating the peak shaving contradiction of the Fujian power grid, improving the operating conditions of the system's thermal power units, better absorbing new energy, ensuring the safe and stable operation of the power grid, and improving the quality of power supply.

Prior to this review meeting, participating experts and representatives conducted in-depth investigations into the upper and lower reservoir engineering areas and underground powerhouse exploration adits of the project, in order to gain a detailed understanding of the progress of the project's preliminary work, as well as the terrain and engineering geology. At the meeting, Fujian Provincial Institute of Water and Electricity reported the feasibility study results of the Mulan pumping and storage project. The expert group was divided into 10 majors, including planning hydrology, geology, hydraulic engineering, and construction, to discuss and review the relevant content of the report in detail. The meeting generally believed that the report met the requirements for the content and depth of the feasibility study stage, and basically agreed to the report.

The convening of this feasibility study report review meeting marks another significant substantive progress in the preliminary work of the Mulan pumped storage project, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent construction of the project. Mulan Pumped Storage Company will fully cooperate with the design unit to modify and improve the report content, ensure the orderly connection and implementation of various work in the later stage of the project, and accelerate the preliminary work of the "14th Five Year Plan" Pumped Storage Project in accordance with the requirements of the provincial party committee and government, strive to approve and start work early, and fully promote the high-quality progress of all work.
