On July 20, 2023, a reporter from Jiandao Network learned from the website of the General Office of the Ministry of Natural Resources that the preliminary review of the entire line of the Zhongwei Pingliang Railway expansion and renovation project has been officially approved by the Ministry of Natural Resources. The expansion and renovation project of the Zhongwei Pingliang Railway has been included in the "Medium and Long Term Railway Network Plan". After review, the land for this project meets the regulations and it is agreed in principle to pass the land pre examination.

The land use in Ningxia should be controlled within 422.29 hectares, including 381.74 hectares of agricultural land and 263.24 hectares of arable land, involving 12.60 hectares of permanent basic farmland;

The land use in Gansu section should be controlled within 91.46 hectares, including 79.03 hectares of agricultural land and 56.15 hectares of arable land, involving 51.73 hectares of permanent basic farmland.

Project Overview

The capacity expansion and reconstruction project of Zhongwei Pingliang Railway is located in Pingliang City, Gansu Province, Guyuan City, Wuzhong City and Zhongwei, Ningxia, and consists of the construction of additional second line and reconstruction of existing lines.

The additional second line project is led out from Pingliang South Station of Baoji–Zhongwei railway and passes through Kongtong District of Pingliang City, Jingyuan County, Pengyang County, Yuanzhou District of Guyuan, Haiyuan County of Zhongwei, Tongxin County of Wuzhong City and Zhongning County of Zhongwei. The main line is 259.29km long, including 42.91km in Gansu Province and 216.38km in Ningxia. The length of the reconstructed existing line project is 273.19km.

This project is a Class I national railway with a speed target of 160 kilometers per hour for the construction of the second line, and an increase in speed to 120 kilometers per hour for the existing line.

A total of 13 new stations will be built along the entire line, including 10 stations in the Ningxia section: Zhongningnan, Changnong, Tongxin, Liwang, Chujiawan, Sanying, Guyuan, Pengyangxi, Pengyang, and Sanguankou; Three buildings in Gansu section: Xinli, Pingliang, and Pingliang South.

The total investment of this project is approximately 18.923 billion yuan, including 15.437 billion yuan in Ningxia and 3.486 billion yuan in Gansu. Editor/Zhao E
