The government has stated that the energy storage project will be the first pumping station in the country, with a capacity ranging from 500 megawatts to 1000 megawatts. It will use the water from Lake Tarnica and Lake Lapstesti. The system will be equipped with a turbine with a capacity of 250 megawatts.

The development began in 1989, but the project has since experienced a series of setbacks. Hidro Tarnita, a Romanian project company responsible for managing planned assets, has held multiple failed bids for the project over the past decade. Finally, the Romanian authorities abandoned the project in 2019 after defining it as financially unfeasible.Editor/XingWentao
