The government has stated that the energy storage project will be the first pumping station in the country, with a capacity ranging from 500 megawatts to 1000 megawatts. The development began in 1989, but the project has since experienced a series of setbacks. Hidro Tarnita, a Romanian project company responsible for managing planned assets, has held multiple failed bids for the project over the past decade.
