The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has announced that UAe-based renewable energy developer Masdar is the preferred bidder for the tender for Phase 6 of the 1,800MW Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which will be launched in September 2022. Masdar competed with Saudi energy giant ACWA Power in the final stage of the tender and submitted the lowest bid of $0.0162154 / KWH. In the initial phase of the procurement, the Dubai Water and Electricity Authority selected a total of 23 bidders.
"The Solar Park Phase 6 1,800 MW project uses photovoltaic solar panels based on the IPP model and will be operational in phases from the fourth quarter of 2024," Dubai Water and Electricity Authority said in a statement. "The project documents, power purchase Agreement (PPA) and financial settlement agreement will be signed in due course."
The 5GW Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park Phase 5 project has an installed capacity of 900 MW and is currently under construction. As of the end of October 2022, the park's operational PV capacity reached 1.83 GW, including 13 MW of the first phase project, 200 MW of the second phase project, 800 MW of the third phase project, and the fourth and fifth phases projects that are still under development."The total capacity of commissioned solar projects in the park has reached 2,427 MW," DWA said.
