On the morning of August 16, 2023, one of the key projects of the national "14th Five Year Plan" for power development - the Jiangsu 500 kV Haiyang Transmission and Transformation Project officially began construction. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed and put into operation in September 2024.

The substation of the Jiangsu 500 kV Haiyang Power Transmission and Transformation Project is located in Zhangdian Town, Jiangyan District, Taizhou City. The long-term scale of the substation consists of 6 sets of 1000MVA main transformers, with a total investment of about 470 million yuan in the project and a total investment of about 420 million yuan in supporting lines. The construction is funded by State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Company. This project is a key project in the national "14th Five Year Plan" electric power development plan and the first project in Jiangsu to obtain approval for construction land in this batch of projects.

Shi Kui, the construction project manager of the Jiangsu 500 kV Haiyang Power Transmission and Transformation Project, said, "The substation will be constructed according to one site and two stations, which will have the smallest floor area and the most economical investment compared to the same scale 500 kV substation. The project is expected to have the conditions for operation by September 2024

After this project is completed and put into operation, it can actively absorb clean energy transmitted from Inner Mongolia Ximeng and Jiangsu Subei to Taizhou ultra-high voltage station, meet the load power supply demand of Taizhou area, alleviate the power supply pressure of the existing 500kV substation, and strengthen and optimize the 220kV power grid structure to improve the reliability of system operation.
