The Shanghai Stock Exchange Renewable Energy Company has broken ground and built a 150MW/300MWh battery energy storage system in West Yorkshire, UK. The BESS facility is located in Ferribridge and is currently being developed at a former coal-fired power plant, which was decommissioned by SSE in 2016.

Richard Cave Bigley, Director of Solar and Battery at SSE Renewables, stated that we are launching the first battery at our existing SSE site. Ferrybridge was once a coal station, but today we have developed to establish a 150MW flexible battery asset that can store the energy we need to help achieve net zero emissions.

The construction project of BESS facilities will be completed by the end of 2024. It will provide a flexible capacity of 300MWh for the UK National Grid. SSE stated that its BESS facility will have the ability to operate for two hours at a time. OCU Services is the main contractor, and Sunshine Power UK will provide batteries for the facility.

Lewis Li, President of Sunshine Power Europe, stated that Sunshine Power is proud to be able to provide our liquid cooled energy storage system, PowerTitan, for this milestone project.

We are excited about our collaboration with SSE Renewables as we are committed to maximizing project profitability through cutting-edge products and services.

The Ferrybridge BESS project is the second project of SSE Renewables. SSE is currently developing a 50MW BESS site in Salisbury and is expected to be operational by the end of 2023.

In addition to the Ferrybridge BESS project, SSE Renewables has also obtained licenses for Fiddler's Ferry and Monk Fryston battery storage projects.Editor/XingWentao
