On August 29, 2023, the commencement ceremony of the second phase of the Nine Cities Water Supply Project in Cameroon was held in the border city of Garu Able in the eastern region of Cameroon. At the ceremony, China Overseas Group Cameroon signed a supplementary agreement to the business contract with Cameroon National Water Company, and both parties also jointly signed cooperation documents with the supervision company and the mayors of five cities involved in the second phase of the project.
Cameroon's Minister of Water Resources and Energy, Essongba, attended the opening ceremony and said, "The Cameroonian people urgently need clean tap water. The Nine Cities Water Supply Project is an important component of the cooperation between Cameroon and China's people's livelihood, and the first phase of the project has come to fruition. We hope that the second phase of the project can promote the cooperation between the two countries to develop more vigorously. We believe that China Overseas Group Cameroon Company will continue to demonstrate professional qualities and complete the project with quality on schedule
Lu Chunyu, General Manager of China Overseas Group Cameroon Company, said, "The Cameroon Nine Cities Water Supply Project is a project to implement the" Nine Projects "of the China Africa Cooperation Forum on health and hygiene. The project execution will provide over 1000 job opportunities for the local area, and after completion, it is expected to provide over 50000 tons of clean water resources per day. The Nine Cities Water Supply Project has played a promoting role in reducing the spread of diseases such as cholera, promoting urban industrialization, and improving people's living standards
The Nine Cities Water Supply Project plans to renovate and expand water plants and facilities in nine cities in Cameroon, covering 7 out of 10 major regions in the country. It is supported by preferential loans from China Export Import Bank and implemented by China Overseas Group Cameroon Company. The project is divided into two phases.
