According to Trend News, the energy ministers of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan are discussing the implementation of the Kambarata-1 hydropower project.
According to the Kyrgyz Ministry of Energy, these discussions were held at the ongoing ministerial meeting in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana. The purpose of this meeting is to promote cooperation in the field of water resources and energy in the region.
During the meeting, issues related to the implementation of cross-border hydropower projects with neighboring countries were discussed.
In addition, in addition to the Kambarata 1 hydropower project, both parties are also working to strengthen connections in the fields of water and energy resources. Joint action, electricity supply, and resource supply during the autumn and winter seasons have also been put on the agenda.
At present, these three Central Asian countries are continuing negotiations on the conditions for jointly implementing the Kambarata-1 hydropower station construction project in the Jalalabad region of Kyrgyzstan.
In the process of establishing a joint venture between the three countries, it is recommended that Kyrgyzstan hold 34% of the shares, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan each hold 33% of the shares, totaling 66% of the shares.
The project requires the construction of a hydropower station with a power generation capacity of 1860 megawatts and a storage capacity of 5.4 billion cubic meters. It is estimated that the average annual power generation of this hydropower station is 5.6 billion kilowatt hours.
