As a landmark project of the Belt and Road Initiative, the Putram Power station is located in the Karpitiya Peninsula in northwest Sri Lanka and is the first and only coal-fired power station in the country. The image of the power station is printed on the Sri Lankan 100 rupee note and is well known to the Sri Lankan public.
