Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, has a population of 20 million, and urban domestic sewage is basically discharged directly into rivers. In order to improve the local water environment, China and Bangladesh jointly built the Dasher Gandhi Sewage Treatment Plant, a key project under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. It is also the first modern large-scale sewage treatment plant in Bangladesh.

The Dasher Gandhi sewage treatment plant project started in August 2017 and will be officially put into operation in April 2022. The factory can process the domestic sewage of nearly 5 million people in the capital Dhaka every day, which has greatly improved the current situation of Dhaka's water environment pollution and also improved the quality of life of the local people.
