On October 30, 2023, Guangdong Hydropower announced that the company plans to invest in the Xinjiang Jiashi 500MW photovoltaic desertification control project, with a total dynamic investment of 1.85 billion yuan and a planned construction period of 12 months.

The proposed project site is located in Jiashi County, Kashgar Prefecture, approximately 33km southeast of Jiashi County. There are no existing roads around or within the site, and the transportation around the site is poor. The proposed site has an open and undulating terrain, and the geomorphic unit belongs to the transitional zone of the desert. The surface is a desert landscape, and the vegetation on the surface is generally developed.
The representative annual total solar radiation of the project is 1514.9kWh/m2, which belongs to the area with abundant solar energy resources in Class B. The stability of solar energy resources in the site area is average in Class C, and the direct radiation ratio is moderate in Class C.

The construction task of the project is to build a new 500MW photovoltaic project. The energy storage system capacity is considered to be 10% of the project's installed capacity, and the energy storage duration is considered to be 2 hours. The energy storage system for this phase is configured according to 50MW/100MWh. The project adopts 580Wp single crystal double-sided photovoltaic modules, with a total of 1015300 photovoltaic modules installed; Adopting a series inverter for power generation and centralized grid connection scheme. This project is divided into two parts: photovoltaic array area and energy storage area. Build a new 220kV booster collection station in Jiashi County, Guangdong Province.
The construction of photovoltaic power generation projects has a positive effect on accelerating the achievement of the "dual carbon" goal. Scientifically and orderly carrying out composite projects such as grass light complementary and agricultural light complementary on degraded, sandy, and saline alkali land can improve the ecological environment, improve grassland quality, increase crop yield, and promote a win-win situation between ecology and economy. The construction of photovoltaic power stations is beneficial for the control of land desertification. Therefore, the project plan adopts a desert+photovoltaic+pasture model, and the lowest point of the solar cell module is considered to be 1m above the ground. Editor/Zhao E
