Against the backdrop of the "dual carbon" goal, the development prospects of renewable energy remain broad. On October 30, 2023, a reporter from Jiandao Network learned from the regular press conference of the National Energy Administration that in the first three quarters of 2023, the National Energy Administration deeply implemented the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, anchored the goal of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, coordinated energy security supply and green and low-carbon development, accelerated the construction of major projects such as large-scale wind and photovoltaic bases, and made every effort to increase clean power supply, continuously achieving new breakthroughs in the development of renewable energy.

The installed scale of renewable energy continues to achieve new breakthroughs. In the first three quarters of 2023, the newly installed capacity of renewable energy in China reached 172 million kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 93%, accounting for 76% of the newly installed capacity. Among them, the new installed capacity of hydropower is 7.88 million kilowatts, wind power is 33.48 million kilowatts, photovoltaic power is 128.94 million kilowatts, and biomass power is 2.07 million kilowatts. As of the end of September 2023, the installed capacity of renewable energy in China is about 1.384 billion kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 20%, accounting for about 49.6% of the total installed capacity in China. It has surpassed the installed capacity of thermal power, including 419 million kilowatts of hydropower, 400 million kilowatts of wind power, 521 million kilowatts of photovoltaic power, and 43 million kilowatts of biomass power.

The generation of renewable energy has steadily increased. In the first three quarters of 2023, the national renewable energy generation reached 2.07 trillion kilowatt hours, accounting for approximately 31.3% of the total generation; Among them, the wind and photovoltaic power generation reached 1.07 trillion kilowatt hours, a year-on-year increase of 22.3%, exceeding the daily electricity consumption of urban and rural residents during the same period.

In the future, the development of renewable energy will enter a new stage of high-quality leapfrog development, presenting new characteristics of large-scale, high proportion, marketization, and high-quality development. However, the development of renewable energy also faces some challenges, such as sustained growth in energy demand, uneven distribution of resources, and insufficient infrastructure. Therefore, in order to achieve high-quality development of renewable energy in the future, it is necessary to address these issues and establish an environment conducive to innovation.
