On January 3, 2024, China Railway Corporation (CRRC) put into commercial operation a light rail train developed for Mexico City, the capital of Mexico. This is the first time a Chinese made light rail train has served the public transportation system in Mexico City.

That morning, the event ceremony was held at the light rail maintenance station in southern Mexico City. According to Gao Feng, Chairman of MEXIRRC, a subsidiary of CRRC Mexico, this batch of trains consists of 9 trains with a maximum operating speed of 80 kilometers per hour.

According to the relevant introduction, the operating route of the light rail train is 13.04 kilometers long. This train adopts articulated bogies with fully independent intellectual property rights of CRRC, ensuring stable operation of the train in complex and winding road conditions. At the same time, the train is equipped with triple protection measures of electric braking system, air braking system, and magnetic rail braking system, ensuring the safety and reliability of the train. In addition, the light rail train also adopts an innovative modular design, which can automatically adjust the composition according to changes in passenger flow density to meet different operational needs. This design not only improves operational efficiency, but also further enhances the passenger travel experience.

Mexican city mayor Matti Bateres said in his speech that these Chinese made trains will mainly serve middle and low-income families commuting daily to and from the city in the southern part of the capital, and will provide more comfortable and modern commuting services for local passengers.

Wang Huijun, Temporary Charg é d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Mexico, stated that Chinese companies have shared the latest public transportation technology with Mexico, providing high-quality smart transportation solutions for the capital city of Mexico City, which will effectively promote green travel. She believes that China and Mexico will continue to strengthen cooperation and jointly create a better future. Keywords: the Belt and Road news, the Belt and Road project, overseas project.
