On January 3, 2019, the Zhala Hydropower Station in Tibet successfully closed the flow. It is understood that this is China's first "large capacity, impact type" hydropower turbine generator set bearing project, the first installed power station project of over one million kilowatts in Tibet, which marks that the project has fully entered the construction stage of the main dam.

In terms of geographical location, Tibet Zhala Hydropower Station is located at the junction of Zayu County, Nyingchi City and Zuogong County, Qamdo City, Tibet Autonomous Region, and is the sixth level of the "seven levels of two reservoirs" development in the Yuqu River basin. The construction of the project uses the Yuqu River up to 60 kilometers of "several" shape big bend, cut the bend straight to form a natural drop of nearly 700 meters high head, with "large capacity, high head, impact, deep shaft" and other engineering and technical characteristics, is China's development of large-capacity impact water turbine generator set support project.

It is understood that Tibet Zhala Hydropower Station is the backbone power station of China's "Tibet power transmission" transmission grid, and is also an important power support point in southeast Tibet and an important project in the construction of a clean energy base in southeast Tibet. The total installed capacity of the project is 1015 MW, carrying two domestic single-unit capacity of 500 MW impact water turbine generator units. After putting into operation, the annual power generation can reach 3.946 billion KWH, and the annual emissions of carbon dioxide can be reduced by 3.42 million tons, sulfur dioxide emissions by 11,000 tons, and nitrogen oxides by 9,000 tons.
