Cameroon plans to build a 400 kV transmission line from the Nakhtigar Hydropower Station to Bafusam, which will eventually be connected to the neighbouring Federal Republic of Nigeria. Cameroon ’s Minister of Water and Energy Gaston Elundu Esamba revealed this through a tender announcement, in which he requested application for the position of project manager.
The line will connect the 420 MW Nahtigar Hydropower Plant, which was set up for operation between October 2022 and October 2023, approximately at the same time as the Nahtigar Hydropower Plant went into operation.
In addition to the construction of 400kV transmission lines, the project also includes the development of 400/225/30/15 kV substations, expansion of Nachtigal Bafoussam substations, construction of 90 kV lines between Nachtigal-Bafia, Bafoussam-Baganté, Bafoussam-Foumbam and Bachtigal-Nkometou And construction of 90, 30 and 15 kV substations in Bafia, Bangangé and Foumbam.
Technical research and project implementation
According to the Minister of Water Resources and Energy, the Cameroonian government has appointed the Indian company Kalpataru Power Transmission Ltd for technical research and infrastructure construction.

Nakhtigar Hydropower Station
