In order to further strengthen the people's connection between the two sides of the Pearl River, Guangzhou will usher in a cross-river tunnel. Recently, according to news released by the relevant departments of Guangzhou City, Guangzhou City will add an additional river crossing tunnel between Xiancun Road and East Square Road between Haizhu District and Tianhe District.

It is understood that the Xiancun Road-Plaza East Road cross-river tunnel project starts from the Xiancun Road in the north, crosses the Pearl River, and goes to the Square East Road in the south. It is located in the center of the golden triangle of "Pearl River New City-International Financial City-Pazhou District", connecting The Pearl River New City, Guangzhou Tower and Lingnan Square are important passages connecting the two banks of the Pearl River. The project construction is an urgent need to speed up the construction of Lingnan Square and connect the major development areas in Guangzhou. It can provide cross-river traffic services for the regional road network system and alleviate the severe cross-river traffic pressure of Guangzhou Bridge and Liede Bridge.

The tender announcement shows that the tunnel passes under Linjiang Avenue, Haixinsha, Zhujiang, and Yuejiang Roads, and is grounded along the East Square Road (now Guangzhou Tower Road) on the south bank of the Pearl River, and ends at Shuangta Road. The ramps of the tunnel are respectively connected to Linjiang Avenue , Yuejiang Road.

The road grade of the cross-river tunnel is the city's secondary trunk road, the design speed is 40 km / h, the two-way 4-lane standard, and the immersed tube tunnel is adopted for the cross-river. According to the pre-construction plan, the main line of the project is about 1.80 kilometers long and the ramp is about 1.04 kilometers long; the tunnel section is about 2.23 kilometers long and the subgrade section is about 0.61 kilometers long. The total estimated investment of the project is about 2.138 billion yuan. It is estimated that after the tunnel is completed, it takes less than 5 minutes to drive from Xiancun to Pazhou Canton Tower.

In recent years, in order to further alleviate the current status of road congestion, ease the pressure on bridges, and improve the travel environment for people on both sides of the Pearl River, Guangzhou will enter the age of tunnel crossing. After the Xiancun Road-Plaza East Road cross-river tunnel is completed and opened to traffic, it will become an important fast-crossing channel for the two major CBDs in Guangzhou. It is estimated that the crossing time will be about one minute.
