On May 19, 2020, China Construction and the Ministry of Water Development, Health and Environmental Protection of Zambia signed a general contract for the construction of the water supply and sewage pipeline project in Mqingga Province, Zambia. The project is funded by the African Development Bank with an advance payment of 20% of the contract value and a construction period of 18 months.
The project content includes: the construction of a water treatment plant with a production capacity of 400 cubic meters per hour in Mpika City, Mqingga Province, including the construction of pumping stations and supporting mechanical and electrical engineering, as well as a set of chlorination rooms and installation of chlorination equipment and related Facilities, newly built a 1500 cubic meter clear water tank, two 1500 cubic meter water storage tanks, installed a total of about 50 kilometers of clean water pipeline network, and fully restored the original sewage treatment system; renovated the existing city in Nakund The water plant and the newly constructed sewage pipe network facilities also include the installation of 4,600 prepaid water meters, 25 bulk water meters and telemetry systems in the cities of Mpika and Nakund.
The project is the sixth African Development Bank funded project signed by the Zambian branch, and the second project that China State Construction acquired from the strategic client of the Zambian Ministry of Water Development, Health and Environmental Protection.
