On June 9, 2020, China Railways issued an announcement that the Guangdong-Pearl River Delta Intercity Rail Transit Co., Ltd. invested and constructed the entire tunnel of the Foshan-City Intercity Railway smoothly.
The Foshan-Dongguan Intercity Railway has a total length of 36.7 kilometers. It starts from Guangzhou South Railway Station in the west and ends at Wanghong Station in Dongguan in the east. There are 7 stations in total, with a designed operation speed of 200 kilometers per hour. The project started on December 26, 2014 and is expected to be completed in 2020 and will be opened to traffic in 2021. After opening to traffic, the fastest can reach Guangzhou from Panyu to Dongguan in 15 minutes. The Foshan-Dongguan intercity railway mainly includes the Chimelong Tunnel and the Shiziyang Tunnel.

The total length of the Shiziyang Tunnel is 6476 meters, of which the shield tunnel is 4900 meters long, and the middle section of the Shiziyang River is 1800 meters. It starts from Panyu District of Guangzhou City and passes through the Pearl River Lion Ocean. It passes through the hole on the Dongguan side and is the world’s largest underwater railway. The shield tunnel is the most difficult and risky project to be constructed on the entire line. It was successfully completed on December 17, 2019.

The Chimelong Tunnel is located in Panyu District, Guangzhou, with a total length of 11.03 kilometers, accounting for about one-third of the total length of the entire line. It is the largest bid for the entire line. The geological conditions along the route are complex, known as the "geological museum". During the construction period, there are many external influencing factors, the requirements for settlement control are high, and the construction is extremely difficult. It is a full-line control project.

During the construction process, the builders actively carried out technological innovations. For the first time in the domestic soil pressure balance shield construction, the continuous belt slag discharge method was used to transport the slag soil. Compared with the traditional slag discharge method, the efficiency was doubled.

The builders also innovatively improved the muck, which greatly improved the operation efficiency, and set a new record for the national shield construction of the 15-ring and 24-meter single-headed daily excavation on the 15th ring of the Pearl River Delta composite stratum, and the national single-head large-diameter shield of 4675 meters The longest record of digging.
