On July 15, 2020, the construction project for the main project of Pakistan's Bazaar Hydropower Station, led by China Power Construction, was held.
Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan attended the ceremony that day and unveiled the project. He said that the construction of the Basha Hydropower Station has been Pakistan’s dream for half a century. It is in line with Pakistan’s strategic plan for energy and will effectively improve the ecological environment, ease the demand for power, optimize the power structure, and solve the crisis of water for people’s livelihood and agricultural irrigation.

It is understood that the Basha Hydropower Station is located at the junction of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province in the northwest of Pakistan and the Gilgit-Baltistan Region in the north. The planned installed capacity is 4,500 MW. The main project of the power plant is led by China Power Construction. The unit was jointly constructed with the Pakistan Border Engineering Bureau. The Bazaar Hydropower Station is the largest water conservancy project under construction in Pakistan, with a design dam height of 272 meters and a total designed pouring volume of 18.6 million cubic meters (including 17.1 million cubic meters of RCC and 1.5 million cubic meters of normal concrete), which will become the world The tallest and largest RCC dam.

Imran Khan said that China is a major hydropower country in the world, and Chinese enterprises have strong hydropower construction technology and rich management experience. He believes that the construction of the Basha Hydropower Project will become a deepening all-weather strategic cooperative partnership between Pakistan and China and consolidate the traditional friendship between the two countries.
