On July 18, 2020, the groundbreaking ceremony of the Great Wall Power Plant's 2×1000MW air-cooled ultra-supercritical coal-fired generating unit project was held in the Shanghai Temple Economic Development Zone, Etuoke Qianqi.

The project is one of the supporting power supply projects for the ±800 kV UHV DC transmission project from Shanghai Miao to Linyi, Shandong. It is composed of Inner Mongolia Energy Power Investment Group Co., Ltd., Inner Mongolia Energy Construction Group, North United Power Co., Ltd. and Shandong Energy Xinwen Mining Group The joint investment and construction of the limited liability company is another energy company directly under the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, another Inner Mongolia's first thermal power project with a single unit capacity of one million kilowatts. The static investment of the project is 6.098 billion yuan, and it is planned to be completed and put into operation in March 2023.
The Great Wall Power Plant project is located in the Shanghai Temple Energy and Chemical Base of Etuoke Qianqi, covering an area of 499.5 mu. The main design technical parameters of the unit have reached the advanced level of domestic units of the same type: the design standard coal consumption for power generation is 271.38g/kwh, the standard coal consumption for power supply is 283.59g/kwh, the plant power consumption rate is 4.307%, and the water consumption is 0.049m3/s.GW.
The coal source for the project comes from the Great Wall No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 mines owned by Shandong New Mine Inner Mongolia Energy Co., Ltd. The unit needs to burn approximately 5.15 million tons of coal per year. The project has obtained a water drawing permit approved by the Yellow River Water Conservancy Commission of the Ministry of Water Resources, and the total annual water drawing approved is 2.654 million cubic meters. The unit design adopts a domestically made high-efficiency ultra-supercritical indirect air-cooled generator set, and simultaneously constructs desulfurization, denitrification, and dust removal devices to achieve ultra-low emissions. Environmental emission indicators comply with gas turbine standards, and all waste water is recycled to achieve zero emissions.

After the project is completed and put into production, the annual power generation can reach 17.5 billion kilowatt-hours.
