On August 5, 2020, China Communications Construction issued an announcement that in order to improve the environment of Xianyang Airport and increase throughput, the expansion work is on schedule, and the Civil Aviation Airport Construction Group won the bid for Xi’an Xianyang International Airport Phase III Expansion Project Flight Zone Road Project Section 2 And 3 bids, the total winning bid amount is about 1.73 billion yuan.

The winning bid for the two bidding sections this time was about 500 million yuan, and the construction period was 1,187 calendar days; the winning bid for the third bidding section was about 1.23 billion yuan and the construction period was 1,826 calendar days. The main construction content of the flight area field road project includes the runway and the corresponding supporting taxiway system; the main construction content of the field road part includes earthwork, foundation treatment, pavement, drainage, fire protection pipe network and auxiliary projects.

It is understood that the third-phase expansion project of Xi’an Airport is guided by the “four-type airport” construction outline. In terms of safe airport construction, it adheres to the safety policy of “safety first, prevention first, and comprehensive management”, and builds “four lines of defense and 12 levels”. "The airport security system adopts various measures such as air defense, material defense, and technical defense to build a multi-level, three-dimensional, and full-coverage security defense line.

The third phase of Xi'an Xianyang International Airport is a major infrastructure project in the "13th Five-Year Plan" promoted by Shaanxi Province and the Civil Aviation Administration of China, and it is also the "number one project" for the development of Shaanxi civil aviation. After it is completed and put into operation, Xi’an Airport will form 4 runways, 4 terminals, and a two-wheel-drive development pattern in the east-west terminal area. It will be equipped with more complete infrastructure, faster air passages, and more high-quality special services.
