Recently, the municipal government of São Jose dos Campos in the State of São Paulo, Brazil, announced that it will introduce 12 22-meter pure electric hinged buses for the operation of a BRT route called the "Green Line" in the city. All buses will be produced by BYD in cooperation with its local partner bus manufacturer Marco Polo, and are expected to be put into operation in October 2021.

BYD Brazil Country Manager Li Tie said: “São José dos Campos is the first city in Brazil to build a 100% pollution-free BRT system. The city government recognizes the importance of electric buses in mitigating climate change and reducing local air pollution. In addition, the city has also cancelled some diesel buses to further improve the quality of residents' travel and protect their health."

It is worth noting that these buses are equipped with the Marco Polo BioSafe platform solution, which is committed to providing protection for public and private spaces in public transportation through innovative solutions and professional technologies in biosafety to ensure the safety of public travel. Under the BioSafe platform, these buses have uniformly installed a UV-C system for air disinfection in the air conditioners, and antibacterial materials are applied to the seats and armrests. Marco Polo Director Rodrigo Pikussa emphasized, “The'Green Line' BRT will be the first urban bus system in Brazil equipped with biosafety technology. In terms of vehicle battery life and passenger capacity, this super articulated bus can travel 250 kilometers on a single charge, can accommodate 168 passengers, and is equipped with barrier-free facilities. On the chassis, it is equipped with an adjustable steering column, an electronically controlled air suspension system that can realize the two-way side kneeling function, and is also equipped with a digital driving recorder. In terms of safety, the vehicle is equipped with 6 high-definition cameras, two of which are used to replace traditional rearview mirrors, giving drivers a wider field of vision, solving hidden dangers in blind spots, and ensuring safety to the greatest extent.

In addition to electric buses, the city introduced 30 BYD pure electric taxis e5 and e6 as early as 2018, forming the largest pure electric police car fleet in Brazil.
