On the morning of September 28, 2020, the construction of the Tieli-Yichun section of the Harbin-Yichun high-speed rail project was officially launched.

The newly constructed Harbin-Yichun Railway is located in the central part of Heilongjiang Province, with an overall southwest-northeast direction. The line starts from Harbin, passes through Bayan County, Suihua City, Qing'an County, Tieli City, and ends in Yichun City. The length of the line is 300.361km. There are 9 stations, including 6 newly built stations and 45 super bridges, with a total of 127.3 kilometers and a design speed of 250 kilometers per hour. The estimated total investment of the project is 29.266 billion yuan, of which the total length of the railway from Tieli to Yichun is 112.299 kilometers, the estimated total investment is 9.241 billion yuan, and the total construction period is three and a half years. The project is jointly constructed by the National Railway Group and the People's Government of Heilongjiang Province.

The Harbin-Yichun high-speed rail project is an extension of the Harbin-Dalian high-speed rail to the north-central area of Heilongjiang. It is the main passenger transport channel in the north-central area of Heilongjiang Province.
