On September 27, 2020, the Dujiangyan to Siguniangshan Mountain Rail Transit Poverty Alleviation Project officially started. It is reported that the construction period of the project is 6 years.

China's first rack rail transit project

As the key rail transit tourism and sightseeing pilot project built by Sichuan Province, the Dusi Project is China's first rail transit project with a cogwheel as its running track, and it is also the first mountain rail transit poverty alleviation project in Sichuan Province. The total investment of the project is more than 20 billion yuan, and the total length of the line is about 123 kilometers. It starts from Dujiangyan City, Chengdu, passes through Yingxiu Town, Wenchuan County, Aba Prefecture, connects Gengda, Wolong, Yingxue, Dengshenggou, Balang Mountain and other places, and ends at Siguniangshan Town, Xiaojin County, with multiple scenic spots connected in series, with a maximum designed operating speed of 120 kilometers per hour. After the completion of the 4th project, it will integrate the rich tourism resources of northwest Sichuan with the Chengdu Plain, creating a new model of poverty alleviation through integration of transportation and tourism.

According to the relevant person in charge, the project draws on the successful operation experience of overseas narrow gauge + cog rail technology, and scientifically integrates Chinese railway technology. According to the characteristics of mountainous lines, the project’s running track adopts a double-track meter-gauge design, and a new supporting research Cog-rail EMU. On steep road sections, dual-system traction with steel wheels, steel rails, and rack and pinion systems is used to improve traffic capacity. In order to protect the ecological environment, the projects mostly pass through bridges and tunnels, and the ratio of bridges to tunnels across the entire line reaches 98.34%.

There will be 5 stations in Dujiangyan City

The Dusi Project was implemented by Sichuan Rail Transit Investment Co., Ltd. as the owner, and the start of the project was Dujiangyan Section. According to the relevant person in charge of the Dujiangyan City Transportation Bureau, Chengdu-Guanzhou Express Railway Dujiangyan Station is the starting point of the project. Passengers who take the express railway from Chengdu to Dujiangyan can transfer at the same station. The Dujiangyan section is about 24 kilometers long and has a total investment of 4.5 billion yuan. It consists of five stations: Dujiangyan Station, Yongfeng Station, Puyang Station, Hongkou Station and Longchi Station. The person in charge said that after the project was put into operation, in addition to self-driving, tourists also used mountain sightseeing trains to travel. In addition to driving the development of the tourism industry along the route, it can greatly improve the access conditions in northwestern Sichuan.

The operation of the Dusi project is mainly based on passenger transport functions, taking into account light and fast freight. In the future, freight channels along the route will be opened up to promote economic and industrial development. For Dujiangyan City, mountain sightseeing trains not only connect the Hongkou-Longchi tourist area in series, and vigorously promote the development of the surrounding tourism industry, but also provide more convenient travel conditions for local citizens.
