The Uttar Pradesh government cabinet led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath approved the light rail transit system of Gorakhpur City on October 9, 2020, and agreed with the detailed project report of the Gorakhpur light rail subway project prepared by rite Limited.

According to the detailed project report, the cost of the proposed Gorakhpur City Light Rail Transit System is approximately Rs 4,672 crore. The deadline for completing this project is set at 2024.

The Gorakhpur light rail project will span nearly 28 kilometers and will have two elevated corridors. One elevated corridor will span 15.14 kilometers and include 14 stations, while the other corridor will be 12.70 kilometers long and consist of 13 stations.

Now, the state cabinet will send the detailed project of the Gorakhpur light rail subway project to the central government cabinet for approval in accordance with the new metro rail policy and standards formulated by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs government. India.

Light rail subway is a railway transportation system with a capacity larger than light rail but lower than a typical heavy rail rapid transportation system.
