On October 20, 2020, it was learned from the Anhui Provincial Development and Reform Commission that the approval content of the feasibility study report of the G3 Tongling Yangtze River Highway and Railway Bridge project has been publicized, and a Yangtze River bridge will be added to the Wanjiang River for 800 miles.

According to public announcements, the bridge is located about 720 meters upstream of the Tongling Yangtze River Highway Bridge, connected to the G3 Beijing-Taiwan Expressway at both ends, with a total length of about 11.88 kilometers. Among them, the main bridge is 1505 meters long and uses a cable-stayed suspension bridge scheme with a main span of 988 meters.

The highway-rail joint construction section of the bridge is about 2,813 meters. The highway part adopts the two-way six-lane highway standard, and the railway part adopts the four-line railway standard, including two-line normal-speed railway and two-line intercity railway (reserved). The road connections on both sides of the bridge adopt the two-way six-lane highway standard.

The construction period of the project is 4 years, and the estimated total investment is 8.69 billion yuan. The project capital accounted for 25% of the total investment, and the city of Tongling arranged financial funds to contribute, and the remaining 75% was settled by the project legal person Tongling Comprehensive Transportation Investment Group Co., Ltd. through bank loans and other channels.

The G3 Tongling Yangtze River Highway Bridge is a replacement project for the existing Tongling Yangtze River Highway Bridge, and it is also the key to promote in the near future in Anhui Province in the "Layout Plan for the Yangtze River Trunk Crossing Channel" (2020-2035) issued by the National Development and Reform Commission in March 2020.
