On October 123, 2020, Chinese miner Zijin Mining officially started production at the Buritika underground gold mine in Colombia. Zijin Mining acquired the mine after acquiring Continental Gold Corp., a large Colombian gold mining company, in March 2020.

After the completion of the acquisition, Zijin Mining's mine gold production increased by about 20%, and it has full ownership of the Buritika Gold Mine. The gold mine is the core asset of continental gold and the largest independent gold mine in Colombia.

Colombian President Ivan Duque visited the ceremony to witness the grand opening ceremony. Duque said that the project is a great project that continuously contributes to Colombia's environmental protection and creates great value for social and economic development. The great value it creates is not only in infrastructure, ecological protection and social resources.

Duke believes that this move will also give children in this area the opportunity to receive better education and allow local residents to enjoy better medical services. It will become an important booster for restarting the economy and restoring people's livelihood in the post-epidemic era in Colombia .

The Buritika Gold Mine is a world-class ultra-high-grade large-scale gold mine with a total construction investment of US$610 million. It has 353 tons of gold resources and an average grade of 9.3 grams/ton.

Chen Jinghe, chairman of Zijin Mining, said that after the completion of the technological transformation at the end of 2021, the production capacity will be increased to 4000 tons per day, which will not only be more ecological and environmentally friendly, but will also significantly increase the recycling of valuable metals. The annual output of gold will reach 9 tons, becoming the country and even Colombia. A modern gold production company in Latin America.

It is estimated that the lifetime of the Buritika Gold Mine will produce nearly 3.5 million ounces of gold and 6.4 million ounces of silver.
