The Polish government has detailed its plan to build an international airport for Warsaw, which was first announced in 2017 and plans to start operations in 2027.
According to local media reports, the cost of 2.8 billion euros in the first phase of the Central Transportation Port will be mainly covered by national debt. The total cost of the project, including road and rail infrastructure, is expected to reach approximately US$7 billion.
The assembly of the 3,000 hectare site will begin in 2020, and the master plan will be completed in 2021. The environmental impact assessment and design of the passenger terminal building should be completed in 2023.
The Central Transport Port will connect road, rail and air transportation, including the A2 highway, the existing central railway line and the high-speed railway between Berlin and Moscow in the future.
The airport’s passenger capacity will reach 50 million per year, and will increase to 100 million with the completion of further stages. This will relieve the pressure on Warsaw Chopin Airport, which currently has 20 million passengers.
The center will generate 300,000 jobs and add $250 billion in GDP by 2040. Editor/Huang Lijun
