Sierra Leone begins construction of the Goderich-Finkeya road in Freetown

The government of Sierra Leone, represented by Dr. Julius Maada Bio, laid the foundation for the construction of Goderich-Funkia, a major road network in the westernmost part of the capital, Freetown.

According to Mr. Amara Kanneh, Director of the Sierra Leone Highway Administration, road construction will cover 1.35 kilometers, including parts of the main Funkia Highway and Femi Turner-Gbendembu intersection.

Kanneh also said that the project will cost approximately US$3.4 million, including the construction of a road to the local breakwater. As part of the project, a new local market will also be constructed, which is expected to be completed in June next year.

Significance of road engineering

In a speech at the groundbreaking ceremony, the President of the West African country said that his government’s restoration of the Funkia-Goderich road is to achieve the government’s overall strategy of opening up communities, towns and free circulation of goods and services across the country, which will help Improve people's living standards.

He said: "Roads are the cornerstone of the West African government. We will continue to invest in the maintenance, repair and construction of more roads across the country."

President Dr. Julius Maada Bio also urged the people of Funkia to obtain ownership of the road construction project to help the government monitor contractors and ensure that the road quality meets standards.

On the other hand, Mohamed Sowe, who represents the contractor CSE Group, said that the construction of this infrastructure is of great significance because it will transform the local community and expand the road connection network in Freetown, especially the Peninsula Highway.Editor/Huang Lijun
