Recently, the National Railway Group and the People's Government of Hubei Province jointly approved the "Feasibility Study Report on the Wuhan-Yichang Section of the New Shanghai-Chongqing-Chongqing High-speed Railway", which means that the project is about to enter the formal implementation stage. The estimated total investment is 52.27 billion yuan, and construction is planned to start in 2020 with a total construction period of 4 years.

The Wuhan-Yichang section of the Shanghai-Yurong High-speed Railway is located in Hubei Province, passing through Wuhan (Dongxihu District, Qiaokou District), Xiaogan (Yingcheng City, Hanchuan City), Tianmen, Jingmen (Zhongxiang City, Jingshan City, Qujia Ling) to Yichang (Yiling District, Dangyang City), the east end of the project is connected with Hewu High-speed Railway, Beijing-Guangzhou High-speed Railway, Wujiu High-speed Railway, Wuhan-Huanggang-Huangmei Railway through Wuhan Hub, and the west end is connected with the proposed Yichang-Zhengwan Railway The high-speed rail link is connected with the Yu-Yi high-speed rail and is an important part of the high-speed railway channel along the river.

The newly-built main line of the project is 295.432km (the operating length from Hankou to Yichang North is 303.924km); including the simultaneous implementation of Hewu and through-line connections. Related supporting projects include:

Wuhan Hub: rebuild the Han-Yi line with a main line of 3.8 km long; rebuild the Hankou Passenger Station, electrify K3～K18 on the grid, and transform it into a car storage line.

Jingmen area: Jingmen West Station reserves the Xiangyang-Jingmen section of Xiang-Chang Railway and the simultaneous implementation of Jingjing Railway.

Yichang Hub: Yichang North to Yangjiayuan Link: Yichang North to Yangjiayuan Downlink Line, the line length is 7.279km; Yichang North to Yangjiayuan Uplink Line, line length 7.239km.

Yichang North EMU service station and EMU running line: EMU running line on the left, line length 6.182km; EMU running line on the right line, line length 6.126km.

It is planned to set up 8 stations in Hankou, East Hanchuan, Tianmen North, Jingshan South (reserved), Zhongxiangnan, Jingmen West, Dangyang West and Yichang North.

It is understood that the Wuhan-Yichang section of the high-speed rail along the river is a key section of the high-speed rail channel along the river, an important part of the intercity railway network of the Wuhan city circle, and an important intercity corridor between the Wuhan city circle and the Yijingjing city group. The passenger transportation backbone of the comprehensive three-dimensional transportation corridor of the Yangtze River Economic Belt. After the completion of the project, it will speed up the optimization of the transportation structure of the Three Gorges Dam, and promote the construction of Wuhan's important transportation infrastructure as a national central city.
