On December 24, 2020, the opening ceremony of the northern section of Qingdao Metro Line 1 and the northern section of Line 8 was held at Qingdao North Railway Station. It is understood that this is the first time that Shandong Province has realized the simultaneous opening and operation of two subway lines.

Qingdao Metro Line 1

The line of Line 1 is about 60 kilometers long and has 41 stations. The line starts from Emeishan Road Station on the West Coast in the south and ends at Dongguozhuang Station in Chengyang District in the north. It is a cross-sea line that passes through the West Coast New District, Shinan District, and Shibei. District, Licang District, and Chengyang District are the north-south rapid rail transit corridors connecting the West Bank City, East Bank City and North Bank City. They can be interchanged with multiple lines in the rail network, which are rare ultra-long lines in China. .

Among them, the northern section of Line 1 has a total length of 21.9 kilometers, with 15 stations, starting from Qingdao North Station in the south and ending at Dongguozhuang Station, connecting large transportation hubs such as Qingdao North Station, North Bus Station and Liuting Airport in series.

After the opening of this section, it will strengthen the connection between Chengyang District, Licang District and the main urban area, effectively solve the traffic problems caused by the city’s Nangong Beisu, greatly alleviate the pressure on ground traffic, improve the travel environment for citizens, and drive along the line Regional land development and socio-economic development.

Qingdao Metro Line 8

Line 8 has a total length of 61.4 kilometers and a total of 18 stations, starting from Jiaozhou North Station and ending at Wusi Square. The line connects Jiaozhou City, Hongdao High-tech Zone, Licang District, Shibei District, Shinan District, etc. It is a fast backbone line connecting Qingdao New Airport, Bei'an City and Dong'an City.

Among them, the northern section of Line 8 (Jiaozhou North Station to Qingdao North Station) is 48.3 kilometers away, with 11 stations, of which Dayang Station to Qingdao North Station has the longest subway sea-crossing tunnel in China. Line 8 connects the five major transportation hubs of Jiaozhou North Station, Jiaodong International Airport, Hongdao Railway Station, Qingdao North Station, and Wusi Square Station. It will realize the efficient and rapid evacuation of external passenger flow, and connect the Hongdao New District and the airport along the line. The economic zone and many other key development areas in the near future have incorporated Jiaozhou into the metro circle, creating a new channel from Jiaozhou to the main urban area of Qingdao.

It is understood that Qingdao Metro Lines 1 and 8 are the two backbone lines in Qingdao's rail transit network and are also an important task for Qingdao's transportation infrastructure construction offensive. Among them, Line 8 is the first batch of major projects for the conversion of new and old kinetic energy in Shandong Province, and Line 1 is included in the list of major supplementary projects in 2020. After the simultaneous opening of the northern section of Line 1 and the northern section of Line 8, Qingdao's subway operating lines reached 6, 246 kilometers, and the total operating mileage ranked among the top ten in China. The subway line network has basically achieved full coverage of Qingdao’s major transportation hubs, efficiently serving Qingdao Liuting Airport and Jiaodong Airport, entering a new stage of network operation.
