After Uberi Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, presided over the groundbreaking ceremony in the Wakiso District, the construction of the Kira-Kasangati-Mataga road began. This road is part of the outer ring network in the north of Kampala.

It starts from the town of Kira round the island, crosses the Kampala-Jayaza road in Kasangati to the west, and finally reaches the Kampala-Bombo road.

The project requires upgrading the kira-kasangati-matuga road, the Najjera-Buwate branch line and the domestic road loop link from gravel to asphalt. This also requires the 2-km section from Kyaliwajjala to Kira to change from the current 2-lane to 4-lane, with pedestrian and bicycle lanes in between.

The project also involves the improvement and upgrading of 5 junctions, including Kitetika junction along the Kampala-Galassa highway, Mpererwe junction along the Kampala-Galassa highway, Erisa junction and the Kampala along the Kampala-Galassa highway. Lhasa intersection.

Chongqing International Construction Co., Ltd. will be the main contractor, and Professional Engineering Consulting Co., Ltd., a joint venture with Capgemini Consulting Co., Ltd., will be the project consultant.

Expectations on the road

Once completed, this road is expected to improve the flow of traffic in and around Kampala and Wakiso, and simplify connections with major roads, especially the Bombo and Jinja highways.

Allan Ssempebwa, media relations manager of Uganda's National Road Administration, pointed out that the project will also improve the safety of non-motorized road users by providing bicycle lanes.

He pointed out that in the long run, the project will help achieve the central goal of the Ugandan government, namely poverty eradication and economic development.Editor/Huang Lijun
