On January 4, 2021, the groundbreaking ceremony of the second phase of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation Changxing Shipbuilding Base was held on Changxing Island, Shanghai, marking the start of the construction of the Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding Overall Relocation Project (Hudong Zhonghua New Plant) under the China State Shipbuilding Corporation.
The Hudong Zhonghua new factory site is located along the south coast of Shanghai Changxing Island, covering an area of 214.6 hectares, with a total investment of 18 billion yuan, and the overall design of the CSSC Ninth Design and Research Institute. The groundbreaking ceremony for the second phase of the China Shipbuilding Changxing Shipbuilding Base was held. The picture shows the excavator breaking ground. The second phase of the China Shipbuilding Changxing Shipbuilding Base, which was listed as a major construction project by the National Development and Reform Commission, started construction on Changxing Island. One of Shanghai's three major shipyards, Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of CSSC, will relocate here as a whole from Pudong.
The project follows the planning and design principle of "advanced technology and reasonable process". Hudong Zhonghua New Plant will organize production in accordance with the modern assembly shipbuilding model, aiming at the world's advanced lean shipbuilding model, starting from process optimization, comprehensively using advanced production concepts such as precision management, information integration, green manufacturing, and intelligent manufacturing to establish scientific and efficient production The management system realizes the rationalization of ship segmentation and general segment division, production streamline and automation, management of pallets, "shell and outfitting" integration, and large-scale loading in the dock, forming the advantages of shipbuilding in general assembly and effectively guaranteeing products Quality, improve operation safety, and form dislocation competition with the existing large-scale ship assembly bases in China, and guide the transformation and development of the domestic shipbuilding industry.
The construction of the second phase of the Changxing Shipbuilding Base will further promote the transformation of Changxing Island’s marine equipment base from manufacturing to intelligent manufacturing, promote intelligent production lines and green shipbuilding technology, and create world-leading assembly integration, system modules, core supporting facilities, and production services. It is an all-element industry base. From the urban area on the banks of the Huangpu River to the mouth of the Yangtze River and the East China Sea, the overall relocation of Hudong Zhonghua is a transformation and upgrading of Shanghai manufacturing, and it is a landmark project that promotes the high-quality development of my country's shipbuilding and offshore industry.
As early as 2005, the first phase of the Changxing Shipbuilding Base began construction. Beginning in 2008, Shanghai’s shipbuilding industry "from the Pujiang River to the East China Sea." Jiangnan Shipbuilding Group took the lead to bid farewell to the Huangpu River, which has been with it for more than 140 years, and moved into the Changxing base as a whole. In the past ten years, "Jiangnan Changxing" has become the most exciting term in China's shipbuilding industry. The deserted beach on Changxing Island has become my country's largest shipbuilding base with the most advanced facilities and the most international competitiveness. This major national project will follow the principle of "overall planning and step-by-step implementation". The project site is located along the south bank of Shanghai Changxing Island, with an area of 431.8 hectares and a total investment of 18 billion yuan. The first phase plans to invest 8 billion yuan. The construction projects mainly include Hudong Zhonghua’s R&D and design building, hull joint workshop, curved segment assembly and welding workshop, outfitting module center, painting workshop, No. 1 indoor dock, No. 2 open air Shipyard, harbor basin, outfitting wharf, etc., with a planned construction area of 460,000 square meters. After the completion of the first phase of the project in 2023, Hudong-Zhonghua will form a production capacity to build 6 special ships annually.Editor/Xing Wentao
