On January 7, 2021, the construction of the Ezhou Airport Expressway, the first smart expressway in Hubei Province, started. It is understood that this is the first smart highway project in Hubei.

Ezhou Airport Expressway Project

Ezhou Airport Expressway is a supporting construction project of Ezhou Airport. The project starts from the south exit of Ezhou Airport and ends at the north of Tingzu Town, Ezhou City, connecting Wuhuang Expressway in the form of a hub interchange. The project is managed by Hubei Communications Construction Group. The total length of the line is about 13.1 kilometers. It is designed with two-way six lanes. The estimated total investment is about 2.426 billion yuan.

It is planned to complete the construction of the main line access road and the No. 2 beam yard before the Spring Festival. The investment of 360 million yuan has been completed. The demolition of houses within the red line has been basically completed, and the project land has been fully launched. In addition, 3 kilometers of the main line and 2 kilometers of access roads have been cleared. The construction of the steel bar processing plant, cement concrete mixing station, small component prefabrication plant and the office area and living area of the No. 2 comprehensive yard has been completed. The equipment foundation of the smart beam yard has been completed. And the construction of the precast beam pedestal advances simultaneously.

As the first smart highway in Hubei Province, Ezhou Airport Expressway has designed 12 major systems such as vehicle-road coordination, road network operation monitoring and early warning, and will use new technologies such as 5G, Beidou positioning, quantum communication, Internet of Things, cloud computing, etc. Equipment, new technology, and new materials ensure network security during airport operations.

After the Ezhou Airport Expressway project is completed and opened to traffic, it will become one of the smartest expressways in China. At that time, the regional road network structure will be optimized, and the multimodal transportation system of the Yangtze River Economic Belt will be further improved, thereby driving the development of the Airport Economic Zone and enhancing the status of Ezhou City.
