It is reported that the Belgrade Metro is one of the most influential infrastructure projects in Serbia. On January 22, 2021, POWERCHINA and the Serbian Ministry of Finance, Belgrade Metro Company, French Alstom Company, and French Egis Company signed a memorandum of cooperation for the Belgrade Metro project.

Basic overview of the project

The Belgrade metro project is the first metro project in Serbia. The total investment of the project is about 4.4 billion euros, and the construction work will start at the end of 2021. The first phase of the plan consists of two lines, of which Line 1 is about 21.3 kilometers long and has a total of 23 stations. Construction will officially start within this year. Line 2 is about 19.2 kilometers long and has 20 stations.

The signing of this memorandum of cooperation marks that the project has entered a substantive start-up stage and will accelerate Belgrade's entry into the era of three-dimensional transportation. After the project is completed, it will not only greatly improve the traffic conditions in the capital city of Belgrade, but also expand the space for urban development, drive the economy along the subway, promote the development of green and low-carbon transportation, and create extremely considerable economic and social benefits.

The tripartite cooperation between Chinese and French companies in Serbia is of great positive significance for the implementation of the joint construction of the Belt and Road and achieving better common development.
