The Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) is readying the bidding process for the dredging project at Laem Chabang Port in Chonburi province to increase traffic flow and ensure the safety of ships docking at the port, PAT director-general Vice Admiral Kamolsak Promprayoon said.He said: "The project will include the dredging of two docks and a waterway, which will remove excess soil and keep the ground water level within safety standards. In addition, this will ensure that large container ships can dock without problems. And is expected to attract more ships to make full use of the port."

Kamolsak added that there is currently too much soil in basin one, which is higher than the safety standard of 401,921 cubic meters, while the soil in basin two is higher than the safety standard of 568,139 cubic meters, and the channel is higher than the standard of 828,380 cubic meters. PAT expects the project to be completed within 360 days.

The project is part of the third phase of the development of Laem Chabang Port, which aims to increase the port’s capacity from 11 million 20-foot standard units (TEU) per year to 18 million containers per year. The third phase also includes the construction of a new F port, which is scheduled to start in October 2022, open for use in 2024, and open E port in 2030.
