The Fairman Tunnel Contractor’s joint venture has begun construction of the 18-kilometer Fairman Tunnel connecting Germany and Denmark, which is said to be the world’s longest combined sunken road and railway tunnel. If completed as planned by the middle of 2029, the link will shorten the train journey between the German and Danish coasts to only 7 minutes and only 10 minutes by car, compared to the current ferry or 160 km drive which takes 1 hour.
Developer Femern believes that this connection line can be up to 9m in width and 43m in width, which will promote trade and tourism in Northern Europe.
The Danish side's work in Rødby has begun, and a large factory has been built that will produce 200-meter-long precast concrete box beams, which will be sunk and used to build the Lorraine Foster area in Denmark And the tunnel between Schleswig Holstein in Germany.
In November 2020, the German Federal Administrative Court rejected all complaints against the tunnel, and now the German side can start work. At the peak of the event, the project will have 2,000 employees.
Hakim Nasser, the project director of the North Tunnel and South Tunnel Contract, said in a Bam statement issued on February 2: "We have been looking forward to this moment and are very happy that this magnificent project can now be realized."Editor/Huang Lijun
