Recently, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation won the bid for the Ethiopian petroleum product transportation railway project. The company will build a railway from Awash town in central Ethiopia to Djibouti to realize one-stop transportation of petroleum and other products.
Ethiopia is a landlocked country that is highly dependent on imported petroleum products. It has laid the cornerstone for the railway project connecting Awash town in central Ethiopia with Djibouti. The country has established the Addis Ababa-Djibouti railway line in the central eastern part. The Awash-Kombolcha-Woldia railway line was established in the north to facilitate oil freight services. This new project is part of Ethiopia’s desire to connect to the strategic railway line.
The railway line will be completed within one year to ensure that two oil trains are operated every day, so that the annual delivery volume of 1.3 million tons can be quickly reached in the long term. In the long run, its transportation capacity will increase to six trains per day. Editor/Tian Zengpeng
