Recently, Guangzhou held the "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development Plan Outline" and confirmed that Guangzhou Metro Line 22 will be extended to Shenzhen. This is also the first official confirmation of the southward direction of Line 22.

Guangzhou Metro Line 22

At present, Guangzhou Metro Line 22 is under intense construction. As of the end of January, 57% of the civil works of the entire line have been completed. The 18.2km Xiantong section (Panyu Square-Chentougang) will strive to open in 2021. Line 22 is positioned as the 160 km/h "underground high-speed rail" with the highest designed speed in China. After completion, it can reach Guangzhou Nansha District from downtown Guangzhou in 20 minutes.

According to the "Draft of the Urban Master Plan for Binhaiwan New Area, Dongguan City (2018-2035)", Guangzhou Metro Line 22 will be extended to Qingsheng Station, Jiaomen, Nansha Passenger Port in the future, and will be connected to Dongguan via Dongguan Binhai. The Bay Station (TOD) will continue to extend east to Shenzhen Shajing Station and connect with Shenzhen Metro Line 18 to reach the Guangmingcheng Station of the High Speed Rail.

This also means that Line 22 can achieve "hand in hand" with Guangzhou and Shenzhen, with Nansha as the intermediate node, connecting Guangzhou's central urban area at one end, and connecting Dongguan at the other end, extending to Shenzhen.

Shenzhen Metro Line 18

Rail Line 18 is planned as an urban express line serving the east-west corridor of Shenzhen's third circle, connecting multiple north-south rail lines to support the development of key areas along the line (Airport New City, Guangming Phoenix City, Pinghu Finance and Modern Service Industry Base). The route runs from the airport via Shajing, Guangmingcheng hub, Guanlan, Pinghu hub, Henggang to Yantian Road, with a total length of about 63 kilometers. Among them, the section from Guangmingcheng Station to Konggang New City is about 20 kilometers long.

In the future, Line 22 will connect the three cities of Guangzhou, Dongguan, and Shenzhen, and efficiently connect Nansha Science City, Dongguan Binhaiwan New District, and Shenzhen Guangming District Science City, and will be in line with the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao Science and Technology Innovation Corridor, which will greatly promote it.
