Recently, China Hydropower (Malaysia) Co., Ltd. received a letter of commendation from Sarawak Energy Company (SEB), the owner of the Balai Hydropower Project in Malaysia, for the early completion of the project's 4 tenders.

In the letter of commendation, the owner spoke highly of China Hydropower (Malaysia) Co., Ltd.'s professional dedication in ensuring the quality of the project, on-site personnel and HSE management of the local environment, and praised China Hydropower (Malaysia) Co., Ltd. for the successful completion of the power station. We express our sincere gratitude and respect for the dedication, hard work and ensuring the realization of the key milestones of the entire hydropower station during the epidemic.

As a key project in the development of Sarawak’s Renewable Energy Corridor (SCORE), the Balai Hydropower Station aims to develop Sarawak’s natural resources, provide the industrial foundation for the state’s economic development and create employment opportunities. The Balai Hydropower Station is located on the Balai River, a tributary of the Rajang River, a tributary of the sparsely populated Rajang River in the southeast of Sarawak. The tenders undertaken by PowerChina are the diversion tunnel project of BLP4 tender and the plant and electrical and mechanical engineering of BLP6 tender.

China Power Construction’s bidding section

The main work of the BLP4 section is the design and construction of two horseshoe-shaped diversion tunnels with a length of about 1.2 kilometers and a diameter of 12 meters. The BLP4 bid section started on August 20, 2017, and the main construction of the diversion tunnel was completed at the end of September 2020. On October 1, 2020, the main construction of the diversion tunnel was obtained ahead of schedule and put into operation, January 3, 2021 Completed the full handover of BLP4 tenders.

It is reported that the implementation process of the BLP4 diversion tunnel project overcomes multiple challenges and difficulties such as complex geological conditions, unstable river level, epidemics, etc., and finally completed the project implementation as planned and delivered it to the owner, which is beneficial to ensure the realization of the 2020 diversion and closure target of the Balai Hydropower Project . During the construction of the diversion tunnel project, the project department created a construction progress record of 216 meters per month for the excavation of the diversion tunnel and 264 meters for the monthly lining of the diversion tunnel, which fully demonstrated the professional capabilities of China Power Construction.

While doing a good job in epidemic prevention, the project department actively coordinated with the owners, local government, and suppliers of all parties to the project, and used the inventory of cement and other manufacturers to exclusively supply the diversion tunnel project of the Balai Hydropower Station in the case of local manufacturers and other shutdowns. , To minimize the impact of the epidemic on site construction and ensure site construction. Sarawak Energy Company, the owner of the Balai Hydropower Station, has repeatedly expressed high affirmation and written praise for the progress of the construction of the diversion tunnel project of the Balai Hydropower Station, environmental protection, and epidemic prevention.

At present, the BLP4 section of the Balai Hydropower Station has been fully handed over. The BLP6 section of the plant and electrical and mechanical engineering is steadily advancing as planned, the detailed design and construction drawing design are in full swing, the construction of temporary construction facilities on site is in full swing, and the excavation of the tailwater slope of the plant has started.
