On April 16, 2021, according to the Sichuan Longxuyi Railway Co., Ltd., the preliminary design of the Longchang to Xuyong section of the Longhuang Railway was officially approved by the Sichuan Provincial Development and Reform Commission.

The Longchang-Xuyong section of the Longhuang Railway starts from the existing Longchang Station of the Chengyu Railway, and passes through Longchang City, Neijiang City, Luxian County, Longmatan District, Jiangyang District, Naxi District, and Xuyong County, and finally To Xuyong North Station of the Xuyong-Bi Railway under construction. The main line is 138.614 kilometers long, the design speed is 120 kilometers per hour, the total preliminary design estimate is 10.168 billion yuan (excluding the newly built Yangtze River Bridge section), and the construction period is three and a half years. The whole line has 11 stations including Longchang, Jiaming, Fuji, Shuangjia, Luzhou West, Naxi, Tianxian, Huguodong, Jiangmen Zhendong, Xinglong Zhendong, and Xuyongbei.

It is understood that the Longchang-Xuyong Railway Expansion and Reconstruction Project of the Longhuang Railway is an important part of the "Master Plan for the New Western Land-Sea Corridor", and will shoulder the important task of the "Sichuan-Guizhou-Guangxi" railway freight channel recently. After the completion and opening to traffic, it will be of great significance for Sichuan Province to fully integrate into the national one-belt and one-way construction, China-Indochina Peninsula Economic Corridor, and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road and other major national strategies.
