Recently, the Nepal Government Investment Committee officially awarded a letter of award to the Tama Water Storage Hydropower Station to a joint venture between China Power Construction and Nepalese state-owned Nepal Hydropower Investment and Development Corporation. On the same day, China Power Construction and Nepal Hydropower Investment and Development Corporation signed a memorandum of cooperation on the development of the Tamo water storage hydropower station, and signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Nepal Hydropower Investment and Development Corporation on the Madi water storage hydropower station. The total amount of these two cooperation projects is 2 billion US dollars.

By providing infrastructure assistance and investment, China is fully committed to its influence in Nepal. It is understood that Nepal is one of the most active countries in South Asia's initiative to China. In addition to the two projects, there are other hydropower projects also involved in the construction of Chinese companies, including the Shangmadi Hydropower Project (which has been connected to the grid), the Nasuwakari Hydropower Project (completed) and the Cissetti Hydropower Project ( It will be completed in 2022).
