Klaipeda Port intends to invest about 400 million euros in the next four years to improve the long-term infrastructure, including rebuilding berths and breakwaters, and increasing the depth of the port area as key investment projects, accounting for more than half of the total investment.
According to the 2021-2024 strategic plan of the Klaipeda Port Authority, in order to enhance the port’s competitiveness to adapt to the new changes in the global shipping market, the Klaipeda Port intends to invest about 400 million euros in the next four years to improve the long-term infrastructure, including reconstruction Berths and breakwaters, and increasing the water depth of the port area are key investment projects, accounting for more than half of the total investment. Part of the investment is expected to come from European funds.
The project of deepening the channel of Klaipeda Port to 15 meters has been started at the beginning of the year to increase the loading capacity of ships. From 2015 to 2020, the average cargo capacity of Klaipeda passing ships increased by 35%. In 2020, the port's cargo handling capacity reached 47.8 million tons, maintaining an absolute leading position among the ports of the three Baltic countries. Editor/Xu Shengpeng
