The friendship between the China Communications First Public Administration Group and Nepal has a profound historical origin. In the 1960s, the Kathmandu-Kodari highway aid project built by the China Communications First Public Administration Group is a testimony of the friendship between China and Nepal. This road was constructed with the help of China in accordance with an agreement signed between the governments of China and Nepal in October 1961. In May 1962, the construction aid expert team came to Nepal to carry out survey and design work. Construction started in June 1963 and completed in April 1967. After five years of construction, the Chinese and Nepalese people worked together, lived together, helped each other, and built a deep relationship.

Fulfill the wishes of the Nepalese people

In May 1962, Chinese experts came to Nepal in accordance with the agreement between the governments of China and Nepal to help build a section of the Kathmandu-Lhasa Highway in Nepal. The road runs from the capital of Nepal Kathmandu to the Kodari section of the border town of China and Nepal. A total length of 104 kilometers. The highway shuttles between lofty mountains and ridges and crosses fast rivers. The geological structure along the line is complex, there are a lot of stone works along the line, and many sections of the road are excavated on the cliffs. The builders of the two countries were blasting cliffs, breaking cliffs, cutting trees, and building bridges in the mountains and ridges. The construction of the project was extremely difficult.

The Nepalese government attaches great importance to road construction. In 1964, King Mahendra and Queen personally inspected the road construction situation. The Nepalese media often praised the construction of this highway and praised the friendship between the two countries. The Nepalese people regard the construction of this road as a great event. An old lady in Baskar said: "I am over 60 years old this year. I have not been out of this ravine. I will be happy to complete this road." The simple language expresses the wishes of the Nepalese people.

Kodari is an important town leading to Lhasa on the border between China and Nepal. There is a river here. Since ancient times, the people of the two countries have carried on trade and cultural exchanges through a small wooden bridge over the river. Experts from China and Nepal built a mid-span arch bridge over this river, with China in the north and Nepal in the south. On the pillars at both ends of the arch bridge, the words "Friendship Bridge" are written in Chinese and Nepalese characters. This was named after the agreement of the two governments. It reflects the friendship between the peoples of China and Nepal. Since then, the bridge connecting the China-Nepal Highway has become a bond of friendship between the peoples of China and Nepal.

Affectionate care and friendship last forever

In order to build this road of friendship, experts from the two countries have played the style of fighting bravely, not afraid of sacrifice, not afraid of fatigue, and continuous combat, and overcome various difficulties caused by natural conditions. They wore the stars and the moon, digging rocks, erecting bridges, fighting the scorching heat, fighting the severe cold, and conquering heavy rains and floods. They shared the joys and sorrows, sleeping in tents, lighting kerosene lamps, eating dry food, drinking spring water, meals and dew, bathing in menstrual frost, and working together to fight against the harsh environment.

Many examples in the process of road construction show the profound friendship between the two peoples. The Nepalese engineer said: "Chinese experts always pass on their technical experience to us without reservation. They have no pretensions and do any work." In the process of cooperating with each other, young Nepalese road builders have grown up. Nepalese technicians who survey the route with Chinese experts can independently be responsible for the construction of a certain section of road. A large number of migrant workers have mastered the technology of opening mountains and firing guns. Whether in the rugged mountains and turbulent rapids, or in the hot sun, or in the storm, Chinese experts and Nepalese workers live and work together. They care for and learn from each other. In order to open the mountain, a Chinese expert risked his life to climb up a cliff in disregard of the dangerous terrain. Nepalese workers Lal and Peel rushed forward and stood on top of him. Many Nepalese workers are deeply moved by this Chinese expert's behavior. When he returned from his work, Nepalese workers repeatedly saluted him and shook hands with him to express gratitude and admiration.

Whenever a Chinese expert moved his station, nearby residents came from the station a few miles away, vying to move things. When there is a farmer in the tower, the whole family moves out like sending off their relatives out on the road, enthusiastically helping with moving things. They said: "Chinese experts help us build roads, and we should move things for them." Chinese experts care about Nepalese workers everywhere. On the construction site near northern Nepal, where the weather is relatively cold, Chinese experts take off themselves. Clothes for Nepalese workers. A worker said: "Chinese experts are like our relatives." The Nepalese worker fell ill, and the Chinese experts offered tea and food, and were considerate. Chinese doctors always treat them with unlimited care. This is how Chinese experts and Nepalese workers care for each other in work and life, and have formed a deep friendship.

The Kathmandu-Kodari Highway, built with the joint efforts of the Chinese and Nepalese people, was not only faster in terms of construction speed, but also very good in terms of engineering quality. At that time, it was one of the best roads in Nepal. It brings the people of China and Nepal closer together. The profound friendship between the people of China and Nepal will surely stand tall and last forever like the Himalayas! Editor/He Yuting
